Body Moisturizer Formulation Classes

Location:  Sealed by Nature Shop - 318 West Plum Street, Edinboro PA

Here you’ll find hands-on classes that teach you how to create your own body moisturizer from scratch. We offer two types of formulation classes: anhydrous balms made with oils, butters, and waxes, and emulsified lotions made by combining water and oils into a stable emulsion.

Please read the class descriptions carefully so you can choose the type of body moisturizer you would like to learn how to make.  No previous formulation experience required. Just bring your curiosity and creativity.

Age Requirements: 

Emulsified Lotion Class: Designed for ages 13 and up. Participants will be measuring ingredients and following a formulation, so younger children are not permitted.

Anhydrous Balm Class: Designed for adults and children ages 10 and up. Ages 6–9 may attend only with a participating adult. Each person must have their own ticket, seat, and project.

In this hands-on formulation class, you’ll step into the role of a skincare formulator and create your own custom body lotion from carefully selected ingredients. Learn what goes into an emulsion, why each ingredient matters, and how oils, butters, humectants, emulsifiers, and other ingredients work together to create a beautiful finished product.

Then comes the fun part: customize your lotion with your choice of scent and finishing touches to create a formula that feels uniquely yours.  You’ll leave with your own 4 oz jar handmade lotion and a better understanding of how professional cosmetic formulations come together.

• Anhydrous Body Balm Class | Friday November 13 |6:00pm-7:30pm

Discover the science behind anhydrous skincare while creating your own rich, nourishing balm from scratch!  In this hands-on formulation class, you’ll learn how oils, butters, and waxes work together to create a water-free skincare product. We’ll explore how changing their proportions affects the texture, firmness, and feel of the finished balm.  You’ll measure and blend your ingredients, choose your favorite scent and skin-loving oils, and create one 2 oz tin of your own custom balm to take home.

Along the way, we’ll discuss how anhydrous products differ from lotions, why they don’t require an emulsifier, and how formulators control texture through ingredient selection and proportions.

Class Purchase Terms
Payment is required at the time of booking to reserve your spot. Cancellations and rescheduling are allowed up to 24 hours before the class by calling Sealed by Nature at 814-384-8184. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the class are non-refundable.
